Recently, Professor Li Yu, a national model for poverty alleviation and an academician of the CAE Member, proposed that under the influence of the typhoon "fireworks", Henan and some major grain producing areas around suffered heavy rainfall, and agricultural production and disaster relief was imminent. In production and disaster relief, in addition to planting miscellaneous grains, beans, and vegetables in disaster stricken areas, edible fungi should also play a special role in disaster relief and production recovery.

Currently, it is the height of summer heat. Academician Li Yu quoted an agricultural proverb that goes, "Great heat and small heat are connected." Now, it has passed the season of "from the beginning of summer to Xiaoman, it's never too late to plant anything." If the crops in the severely affected areas are completely submerged, we can only "plant radish for the first time, vegetables for the second time, and buckwheat for the third time." Our ancestors told us that we can plant crops with short growth periods such as vegetables and buckwheat. In addition, farmers should be guided to plant edible mushrooms with abundant raw materials, short cycles, fast results, and high efficiency.

Academician Li Yu pointed out that edible mushrooms have the characteristics of "five non compete", one of which is "not competing with farmers for time". Its cultivation does not require coordination with time. In any season, as long as you want to plant it, you can choose the right variety to plant it. The areas affected by severe floods this time are mostly major grain producing areas with abundant straw resources. By utilizing forests, greenhouses, abandoned livestock and poultry pens, and farmhouses, mushrooms can be quickly grown to replace grain. Moreover, it has rich protein and polysaccharides, making it both a vegetable and a staple food. More importantly, the benefits of edible mushrooms are higher than those of regular vegetables, which is beneficial for increasing farmers' income. Each region should guide the planting of edible mushrooms in disaster areas according to local conditions, helping farmers reduce losses and increase income.

Academician Li Yu pointed out that edible mushrooms have played an important role in the 8-year poverty alleviation campaign; The role of edible mushrooms in disaster relief and production recovery should not be underestimated. We hope that disaster stricken areas will attach importance to the production of edible mushrooms, pay attention to solving problems such as production funds, strain supply, technical guidance, and market sales, and do a good job in providing precise assistance to mushroom farmers and cooperatives, so that small mushrooms can play a significant role in production and disaster relief.
