Peru surpasses Chile to become the most important blueberry exporter in South America


The COVID-19 virus epidemic has severely influnece on Peru's exports of blueberry. For the second year in a row, Peru surpassed Chile to consolidate its leading position as a blueberry exporter.

In line with the data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of Peru, between January and May, blueberry production increased by 17%, mainly in the Lambayeque, Ancash and Piura districts. Due to the spread of Covid-19 epidemic, Peru’s exports have been severely affected, but blueberry production has increased significantly.

According to the report, Peru is currently the fourth largest producer of blueberries, by following India, China and Nigeria.
