Chile blueberry maintaining a rapid growth, Its export volume exceed 10,000 tons per week,
According to data from the Chilean Blueberry Association, Chilean blueberry exports returned to normal in the 50th week of 2020. The weekly export volume reached 10,308 tons, an increase of 10.2% over the same period last year and a sharp increase of 102.2% over the previous week. The return of cargo ships to Europe to normal is the main factor in the substantial increase in exports. Although the export volume in 50 weeks exceeded 10,000 tons, the overall blueberry export volume this season reached 20,665 tons, but the export volume was still 6.4% lower than the same period last year. At the same time, in the 50th week, organic blueberry exports reached 754 tons, a year-on-year increase of more than 49.3%, still maintaining a rapid growth trend. Throughout November, Chilean exports of frozen blueberries reached 2,349 tons, and Australia was the main destination. This amount was 11% less than in the same month of 2019.
It can be seen from the distribution of export regions that Chilean blueberry exports to the European market reached 5,056 tons in the 50th week, surpassing the North American market (4,001 tons) for the first time, and exports to the Asian Far East market also reached 1,307 tons. Specifically, the North American market is still in a decline in exports, with a weekly decline of 11.4% year-on-year. It is expected that exports to the North American market this season will face shrinking. The European market increased by 93.6% year-on-year in a single week, of which exports to the UK were 1,522 tons, and the European continent was 3271 tons. Excluding the delay of two cargo ships last week, exports to Europe have increased slightly this season. The Asian market's exports have not returned to last year's level, compared with the same period last year, a single week drop of 22.4%, of which exports to China was 916 tons, and exports to other parts of Asia were 389 tons. However, compared with the previous week, exports to China increased from 319 tons to 916 tons, which also heralded the gradual arrival of the peak of exports to China.
In terms of production, the central and southern production areas of Chile have reached the peak of harvest and are currently the production area with the highest output. Duke is the most important variety. The North District has entered the final stage of harvest, and most of the harvested varieties are Emerald, O'Neal and Ventura. The central area is just after the harvest peak, and the main varieties include Duke, Suzie Blue and O'Neal. In the future, the southern producing area will gradually become the main force of Chilean blueberry exports, and the main variety is also Duke.
