According to South American Overseas Chinese News, Chile exported 110,000 tons of blueberries from 2017 to 2018, a year-on-year increase of 6%, a record high. The North American market is its main export destination, and the Asian market has huge potential.

According to reports, blueberries are rich in minerals, vitamins and phytochemicals and are regarded as the number one antioxidant fruit. In recent years, the demand for blueberries has continued to increase, and the export volume of Chilean blueberries has also increased.

Data shows that the North American market is the main export destination of Chilean blueberries, accounting for 64% of the total export volume. In the United States, blueberries are the iconic fruit of a healthy diet. The European market ranks second, accounting for 24%. However, its imports have grown the fastest, an increase of 12% over the previous quarter, especially in France and Italy.

The report pointed out that the emerging Asian market in recent years ranked third, with blueberry imports accounting for 12% of the total. In the 2013-2014 quarter, Asian countries imported only 6,500 tons of blueberries from Chile, but this quarter's imports increased to 13,200 tons, 70% of which were sent to China, South Korea and Japan. In addition, Chile has signed a phytosanitary agreement with India, and India’s blueberry imports will also increase.

Not only that, Chinese companies have recently signed important investment agreements with the Chilean agricultural sector. They will work with local cooperating producers and packers in Chile to ensure the export supply of blueberries and cherries, and plan to launch their own brand by October.
