Chinese Fresh Pears Exported to Brazil
On January 6th this year, the General Administration of Customs of China issued the "Announcement on the Phytosanitary Requirements for the Export of Chinese Fresh Pears to Brazil", and domestically produced fresh pears officially opened the door to the Brazilian market. The requirements point out that orchards of fresh pear and packaging plants must be registered by the General Administration of Customs of China, and the name list shall be submitted to the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Food Supply (MAPA) at least 30 days before export for reviewing and approval. Planting production must follow the "Orchard Comprehensive Management Plan" issued by the customs together, and a traceability system must be established during the harvest process. In addition, the fresh pears that to be exported to Brazil shall be sorted and packaged for export need to be stored separately in a cold storage (0 ~ 2 ° C), and should not be stored with other fruits that are exported to other markets or other varieties.
China is the world's largest producer of fresh pears. According to data addressed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) the output of fresh pears in China is expected to reach 17 million tons in the year of 2019 , which increase by about 21% compared with the output reduction caused by the severe climate in the year of 2018 . Driven by the boost in production, China ’s fresh pear exports this season are expected to reach 500,000 tons, which increased by 40% compared with the 366,000 tons exported in the previous year. Kaiyang, the general manager of Shaanxi Winfun Industrial Co.,Ltd, previously said in an interview with Asian Fruits that although the pear industry has noticeably picked up this season, all sectors of the industry must remain vigilant, improve quality, carefully process and prevent fruit diseases, and then increase exports to alleviate Pressure on the domestic market.
